Founded in 1985, The Organization for a New Equality is a non-profit civil rights organization concerned with educational, social, political, and legal initiatives to change negative attitudes and discriminatory practice in low-income communities and communities of color.
When people are denied economic opportunities we all pay the price: economic productivity declines, tensions escalate, crime and welfare costs increase, and hope diminishes. By creating a new consensus that crosses color, class, generation, and gender lines, O•N•E is removing the roadblocks that have traditionally prevented people from reaching their full financial potential.
O•N•E's mission is to expand economic opportunities for people historically excluded from the financial mainstream by teaching them how to achieve financial independence and gain equal access to credit and capital. O•N•E, in partnership with faith- and community-based organizations, works toward inclusion by advocating equal access to credit and capital and by providing financial education and asset building strategies to low-income communities, women and communities of color.
O•N•E believes that inclusion can be achieved through determined action on the following key fronts:
Preparation: Every individual must have access to educational opportunities and training designed to prepare them for effective economic involvement.
Participation: Individuals must become active participants in the economy through full employment, home ownership and business development.
Parity: All individuals must be provided fair and equal access to credit and capital if economic inclusion is to be realized.
